New Horizons of Spokane is excited to offer assistance on generating additional training funds to qualified clients through grants made available by the Washington State Board of Community and Technical Colleges. These grants provide financial assistance to eligible companies and organizations committed to expanding the skills of their existing workforce through training programs.

Washington Custom Training Program
On April 30, 2009 the Governor signed into law changes to the Custom Training Program (CTP) taking effect on July 26, 2009. These changes made the CTP accessible to most businesses needing training assistance in Washington State who pay business and occupation taxes. These grants, now called allowances, provide financial assistance to businesses committed to training their eligible Washington-resident employees. The fund reimburses for eligible training expenses over an eighteen month term. Companies can receive reimbursements of up to $500,000 per calendar year for retraining existing workers and/or training new employees. This grant is designed to support the training needs of the entire organization, not just those of the IT department.
Eligible Workforce Training Activities:
- Basic Skills: Traditional basic skills (reading, writing and math)
- Transferable Skills: Skills that enhance an employee’s general knowledge, employability, and flexibility in the workplace (computer skills, blueprint reading, problem solving, team participation, welding, etc.)
- Company-Specific Skills: Those skills unique to a particular company’s workplace, equipment, and capital investment.
